PYRENEES AT BOLETAS
INTRODUCTION
Our short weekend break has been designed for small groups of friends, birdwatchers or photographers, with a maximum of five people. Now you can fly from Stanstead to Zaragoza for around £ 60.- return ticket , giving you the chance of a very good value tour.
We offer an interesting birdwatching holiday in which you will enjoy our special meals and Spanish wines such as Rioja or Rivera del Duero, specially selected for you during this week end. Transport will be in a 4x4 vehicle Toyota Land Cruiser, which allows us take you to unknown places in incredible landscapes. But most important is the opportunity for a superb birding and photography days with following selected bird list:
Griffon Vulture, Lammergeier, Golden Eagle, Bonelli´s Eagle, Bittern, Crane, Little Bustard, Stone Curlew, White Stork, Cattle Egret, Eagle Owl, both sandgrouse, Black Woodpecker, Calandra Lark, Short-toed Lark, Thekla Lark, Crag Martin, Water Pipit, Alpine Accentor, Black Wheatear, Blue Rock Thrush, Dartford Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Firecrest, Peduline Tit, Wallcreeper, Southern Grey Shrike, Red Billed Chough, Alpine Chough, Rock Sparrow, Snow Finch, Cirl Bunting, Rock Bunting
Itinerary
Day 1.- Meet you at Zaragoza airport. In 10 minutes we will be searching for Eagle Owl , Black Wheatear and Blue Rock Thrush. Later in few minutes we will be in a huge steppe land looking for sandgrouse with good chances for several larks and raptors. Before arrive at Boletas Birdwatching Centre we will check another Eagle Owl area. Welcome dinner and overnight at Boletas B.C.
Day 2.- We will visit Guara and Vadiello where among other birds Wallcreeper , Lammergeier and Alpine Accentor are almost guarantee. Near Loporzano we will look for raptors particularly searching for Bonelli´s Eagle where still surviving the last pair in the central Pyrenees. We will visit La Sotonera reservoir looking for Cranes. Overnight at Boletas B.C.
Day 3.- Drive to the French border for alpine specialities as Snow Finch, Alpine Chough or Chamoix in an dramatic landscape of snowy peaks. On the way back to Boletas we will look for woodland birds such as Black Woodpecker or Cirl Bunting. Overnight at Boletas B. C.
Day 4.- Early morning a short stop at Sariñena Lake will produce, among other birds , Bittern or Penduline Tit. Drive to Zaragoza airport.

Many thanks for your superb leadership and hard work over the last few days. I really appreciated it and also enjoyed making jokes with a "poor simple Spaniard!!
I will certainly send you a CD with a selection of photos.Next time I come it will be to stay at Boletas and to see more of the hidden Aragon.

LONG WEEKEND AROUND MADRID

The natural areas around Madrid are often overlooked by foreign birders but with great potential and accessibility. Include a great variety of habitats, ranging from alpine pastures in the high mountains of Sierra de Guadarrama to cereal steppe and dry plains in the Tagus basin, where many of the Spanish specialties can be found. A weekend in Madrid, especially in Spring, can produce many bird species usually searched for in south Spain, together with beautiful landscapes, within surprisingly short distances from downtown Madrid and its international airport.
We offer you a long weekend of 5 days in which you will be able to see an important number Spanish specialities. Some birds mentioned in our itinerary are seasonal only.

Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrive Madrid birding near Madrid airport with chances great bustard, little bustard, balck-bellied sandgrouse, lesser kestrel, montagu´s harrier, calandra lark, golden eagle, penduline tit and several warblers. Overnight In Torremocha de Jarama
Day 2 : Navacerrada range. Early morning we will drive from Torremocha through Puerto de la Morcuera and Navacerrada among other specialties we will find several raptors including black vulture, azure-winged magpie, rock and blue rock thrush, hortolan and rock bunting, citril finch, water pipit, crested tit or bonelli´s and melodious warbler. Good walkers will have chance of alpine accentor and bluethroat. Overnight in Torremocha del Jarama
Day 3 : Sepulveda area, one of the best places in Spain for the difficult Dupont´s Lark. After breakfast drive to the spectacular limestone rock faces carved by the river Duraton. Important colony of raptors and semi arid birds such as griffon vulture, egyptian vulture, red-bellied chough, thekla and crested lark, calandra, short toed lark, crag martin, woodlark, great spotted cuckoo, black-eared wheatear also dartford and spectacled warbler. Before dusk we will try for Dupont´s lark.Overnight in Sepulveda.
Day 4 : Early morning before dawn Dupont´s lark would be our target. Drive to San Martin de Valdeiglesias. We will stop in the river side of Jarama river with chances for wryneck, Penduline tit , golden oriol and lesser- spotted woodpecker. The San Juan reservoir holds a good breeding population of Spanish imperial eagle, other birds could be azure -winged magpie, balck vulture, short-toed , booted and golden eagle, woodlark, short toed treecreeper, rock bunting, goshawk and several warblers. Overnight in the area.
Day 5 : Birding in route to Madrid airport.
